Architectural Photography in Black and White

Yesterday I was shooting a few architectural images for a client. Even when I am shooting something specific, I often look to take a few shots that appeal to me simply for their artistic merit.

The contrast of the steep peak of the church against the clouds caught my eye. Such strong lines made it so interesting.

The historic home edited to black and white was like stepping back in time. Elegant and timeless.

Other images from yesterday’s shooting can be found by clicking HERE.

It is so nice that spring has arrived, the blue skies are back, and soon we may even have leaves making for prettier pictures.

West Country Wonder

Tay River, Alberta, Canada

My husband and I have been on a bit of a quest lately, and it has taken us to some spots of extreme beauty. Sunday’s adventure took us to the west country of Alberta. Away from the urban areas, tourists, and crowds there is a whole different Alberta of unspoiled natural beauty. If you are willing to venture down gravel roads and out of cell phone range you will see even more wonders.

The roads might not be fast, but you wouldn’t want them to be. This is a place to drive slow and take in the sparkling fall leaves, mountains in the distance, and the odd river and wetland.

The highlight for the family were the wild horses. A treat to see, but they were gone in a flash with no chance for a picture.

Eventually we ran out of light making it time to return home, but it has left us plotting our next journey into the lesser visited areas of the mountains of Alberta.

1 Day 1 World Project: 11:00pm – 12:00pm – Into the Studio

Joining in with Northwest Frame of Mind’s  1 Day 1 World Project I thought I would share what I was up to this evening. This evening, shortly after 11:00 pm I popped down to the studio to shoot a painting I completed yesterday.

studioI must confess I am a night owl. When most people are already tucked nicely into bed I’m just gearing up for the evening. I have been known to say to my husband around 2:00 am “What would you like to do for the rest of the evening?”…..followed by him rolling his eyes and saying “It’s 2:00 am!”.

The joke in our home is that the only way I see a sunrise is if I haven’t gone to bed yet………okay it is true.

I like the night.

I like the quiet.

(By the way if you would like to see the painting feel free to click HERE.)

Black and White Studio Photography (4 images)

Here are a few recent images taken in the studio. I am beginning to really like the look of a very simple and plain background. The softer lighting pattern is also a nice look. I decided to share the black and whites on this blog , however if you wish to view a few color images from the same sitting they can be viewed by clicking  here.
