The “rest” of Opus Daily Practice -art and knitting

This post is “the rest of Opus Daily Practice”. A bit of traveling managed to happen at the end of this project which meant I was able to post to Instagram, but my cell phone data plan was unhappy with the usage needed for blogging. Below are the rest of the pieces created for the […]

October Afternoon, Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary, En Plein Air Watercolour

web-gaetz-lakes-sanctuary

Yesterday it felt like fall, which was a good thing taking into account the two weeks of snow we had earlier in the month. With the sun shining the weather just begged for me to put work aside for an hour and get outside.

As Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary is close to home, it seemed like the natural choice for a place to go. I had been thinking about doing another en plein air watercolour painting for a while, so this seemed the perfect opportunity.

I had remembered a bench along one of the trails, so I chose that as the destination.

Twenty minutes later a loose and colorful watercolour was complete. 5″x7″ in size. A great afternoon break.

Painting Challenge – The First 8 Days

An artist I follow on Instagram has decided to do a challenge of 100 paintings in 100 days. Through virtual chatting she suggested that I give it a go too. I have just completed the first 8 days. All these paintings were painted live on location, or “en plein air”. 4 are painted in acrylic, 3 in oil and one is a watercolor. On www.debra-hunter.com I have been tracking each of the paintings on the “en plein air” page. Some I love, some I don’t, but I guess that is bound to happen when you usually have less than an hour to paint.

Now I need to make a decision, continue with “en plein air” or move to a another style for a week to explore? Do I return to my usual “studio” painting, try portraits, or maybe abstracts? I will have to have a think, and see what tomorrow brings.

Painting Two Days In A Row

blog Bax april 11 2016It doesn’t happen often, but I have managed to get out painting two days in a row. Quick, en plein air sessions, but painting none the less. Today my youngest was my company. He ate his lunch on location while I snuck in a quick 30 minute paint before doing the school run.

Projects On The Go (a W.I.P. post)

I thought today would be a good time to put up a “Works in Progress” post. 2016 seems to have given me a lot of opportunity (or possibly inspiration) to work on creative pursuits. So here it is, in a visual presentation, the current works in progress.

Handmade toggles with wood burned embellishments will be decorating new knit items in the near future.

———-

A lot of items being worked on at the moment. Most of these images are from my Instagram accounts, it is where I post my most up to date works in progress. The accounts are @handmadeincanada and @debramhunter ; feel free to follow if you like to see quick visual posts.

What is up next? More natural dyeing, more toggles, knit cuffs, more spoons and finishing a painting in progress. Hopefully soon a few of these new pieces will be available on www.handmade-canada.com .
